How Biochar Tree Soil Improver is applied
For new tree planting, apply at 10% by volume of the planting-pit backfill.
For bare-root stock, the minimum is 1kg per pit.
For standard and heavy standard trees, apply 2–5kg per pit depending on specimen size.
For established trees, apply as a top-dressing within the root protection area at 2–3kg per square metre.
No equivalent substitution permitted. Biochar Tree Soil Improver contains the Carbon Gold proprietary blend, which includes Trichoderma and Mycorrhizal Fungi — not found in plain biochar.
Biochar Tree Soil Improver in BNG schemes
Biochar Tree Soil Improver is specified into Biodiversity Net Gain habitat management plans because the biological component is what makes the difference between a tree (or a habitat) that establishes and one that fails. Substitution after specification requires written approval from the ecologist of record and may require revision of habitat unit calculations.
