Designed in partnership with Apex Soil Solutions, Geoblend is the original and dedicated biochar blend formulated to flow, dose and deliver through the VOGT Geo-Injector putting Carbon Gold’s living soil chemistry exactly where the roots need it.

Urban climates have shifted sharply since the mid-2010s longer summer dry periods, more frequent extreme weather and ever-tighter root zones. The result is stressed, declining trees and failing turf in exactly the places we can least afford to lose them. Soil compaction sits behind most of it: compressed pore space starves roots of air, water and nutrients, and surface treatments rarely reach the depth where the damage is done.

Built for the machine, built for the roots

The VOGT Geo-Injector distributed in the UK by Apex Tool Solutions and pioneered in the field by Apex Soil Solutions drills up to 1.2 m into compacted ground around a tree or under turf, then uses pneumatic pressure between 5.0 and 8.0 bar to fracture the soil and create a network of voids without damaging tree roots. Those voids are immediately backfilled with soil improver. It is non-invasive: no trenching, no disturbance to topsoil, and safe to use inside Root Protection Areas.

That delivery method places very specific demands on the material it injects. Grain size has to be tightly controlled, moisture content matters, and the blend has to dose consistently through the dosing chamber shot after shot. Off-the-shelf biochar will jam, bridge or dust out. Geoblend was developed with Apex’s operators on real machines, in real ground, to dose cleanly and travel into the fractures the air pulse opens up.

Reviving Bexley’s Charter Oak

Around 200 years old and featured on the London Borough of Bexley’s coat of arms, the Charter Oak in Danson Park had been showing diminished vitality, a reduced leaf-area index and the early advance of beefsteak fungus. Bexley’s Tree and Woodland Officer called in Apex and Carbon Gold to extend the life of the tree. The Geo-Injector drilled 1.2 m around the base, blasted 100 psi of air every square metre from root collar to dripline, and backfilled the voids with Carbon Gold’s enriched biochar, completely encompassing the root zone. Nine months later the oak was vibrant again; on a 2022 follow-up visit the tree was as healthy as it had been in years.

Once injected, the biochar provides a permanent, porous habitat for soil biology to colonise and for roots to exploit, restructuring compacted soil, holding water and feeding the rhizosphere for decades, not seasons. Every batch is dose-graded specifically for the VOGT Geo-Injector.
