It’s increasingly hard to buy good compost, one that does what it says on the bag. Last year was even worse than usual because frequent heavy rain saturated the compressed bags that most garden centres insist on storing outside. The bags I bought in 2012 seeped water and the texture was damp and smelly rather than light and airy. It simply wasn’t fit for purpose, so I found myself driving more than 30 miles to John Massey’s Ashwood Nurseries in the West Midlands to collect his generous blue bags, made according to various John Innes recipes….      To read full article here
