Is Biochar Better Than Fertiliser?
Biochar and fertilisers serve different purposes in soil management. Biochar enhances soil formation by improving soil structure, moisture retention, and nutrient cycling. It acts as a long-term soil amendment that helps increase soil organic carbon levels and promotes microbial activity. Fertilisers, on the other hand, directly supply plants with nutrients for immediate uptake. Both biochar and fertilisers have their advantages and can complement each other in a comprehensive soil management strategy. The optimal approach often involves using biochar to improve soil health and nutrient availability in conjunction with fertilisers to meet specific plant nutrient requirements.
