Carbon Gold was set up in 2008 by Craig Sams and Daniel Morrell. Both had already launched successful environmentally friendly businesses. Craig was the founder of Green & Black’s Chocolate, Dan set up the Carbon Neutral Company. They wanted to find a way to contribute in the struggle against climate change. They identified opportunities for the commercial development of biochar to remove CO₂ from the atmosphere, improve soil fertility and generate carbon credits by the process.
In 2008, VenEarth Fund invested in the company to support further development.
The senior management team now includes Craig Sams (Executive Chairman), Simon Manley (Head of Operations) and Ian McChesney (a founder of Energy for Sustainable Development) as Head of Engineering.
